Descripción de la Oferta

The base location for this position will be Panama City, Panama. This role requires regular travel (up to 50%) to high risk, remote regions of the country with limited infrastructure and medical care.

Responsibilities:
•Serving as a trusted adviser to the Ministry of Health staff on issues related to malaria elimination, including vector control, case management, and surveillance
•Providing guidance and analytical support to the malaria program on vector control and entomological investigation, monitoring and surveillance, and interpreting intervention results. This requires translating evidence, current research, and normative guidelines in these fields into practical programmatic and field operations
•Designing and facilitating implementation of operational research projects, including conducting background research, designing surveys, writing protocols, conducting data analysis, and writing reports
•Providing technical and operational support with implementing vector control interventions, including long-lasting insecticidal hammocks, larval source management, and indoor residual spraying, in targeted foci of transmission
•Cleaning, organizing, and analyzing datasets, and conducting epidemiological and spatial analyses of surveillance, vector and intervention data
•Translating results of analyses to national and sub-national government partners to support evidence-based decision making, and disseminating findings through high-quality and clear presentations, reports, and publications
•Updating national guidelines and policies to align with global elimination recommendations
•Identifying key impediments to the successful execution of malaria elimination plans and work with malaria programs and other partners to develop solutions to rapidly address those bottlenecks
•Proactively developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders across government and non-governmental organizations
•Developing detailed operational plans, operating procedures, and associated training materials to build government capacity and support effective execution of malaria program


Qualifications:
•Fluency (reading, writing, and speaking) in Spanish and English
•Bachelor's degree minimum with 3+ years of working experience with increasing levels of responsibility and leadership; Master's degree in Public Health epidemiology, social sciences, biology, or related fields preferred
•Proven experience in building and maintaining relationships with partners from government and/or other complex organizations
•High levels of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
•Knowledge of major global infectious disease problems, preferably malaria
•Superb problem-solving skills, and enthusiasm for applying analytical methods to solve global health problems
•Excellent written and oral communications skills, including report-writing skills
•Exceptional attention to detail
•Demonstrated ability to work independently in unstructured settings and to adapt to new environments and challenges
•Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities in remote settings
•Ability to be effective, patient, and thoughtful in high-pressure situations
•Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and act upon technical information
•Demonstrated ability to translate scientific knowledge into actionable insights for decision-making
•Ability and willingness to work effectively in cross-cultural environments
•Strong capacity for diplomatic work with policy-makers and other partners
•Experience and willingness to work in high-risk, developing settings for extended periods of time
•Experience working in Central
