Education and/ or Experience:
• Degree in education.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
• (3) to (5) year’s mathematics classroom teaching experience is required.
• Prior coaching experience is preferred.
• Deep knowledge of the Math Common Core Curriculum frameworks and mathematical practices.
• Demonstrated ability to model effective math lessons (e.g. aligned to standards, balance of conceptual and procedural emphasis, integration of mathematical practices, differentiation planning based on data, etc.)
• Experience with standards-based assessment and effective use of student data.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with teachers.
• Experience providing professional development for teachers.
• Experience communicating with parents/guardians about how children learn math
• Proficient computer skills.
• Strong leadership and collaboration skills.
• Bilingual, English Spanish.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Coaching – Building Capacity
• Work with teachers one-on-one and in grade level teams to plan lessons from standards, use a wide range of curriculum materials, determine student groupings, and implement research-based instructional strategies to support implementation of math curriculum maps
• Introduce best practices in the area of math through demonstration lessons, co-teaching, co-planning, peer observation, study groups, and professional development workshops
• Build teacher capacity to interpret and use a range of math assessment tools to plan lessons and address individual student needs in the area of math
• Support the process of identifying research-based interventions and screening tools that support tiered instruction in math
• Articulate goals, practices and program philosophy related to math as needed for staff and parents
• Communicate school policy and expectations
• Meet regularly with the sub Directora and Coordinator to analyze data, visit classrooms, and discuss next steps for professional development that supports growth in math achievement
• Attend math coach meetings
• Provide assistance to grade-level teams in identifying data-driven math SMART goals and research-based methods for improving student achievement
• Support the school instructional leadership team in monitoring progress toward meeting grade-level and school wide math goals
• Provide leadership in preparing and disseminating math assessment data
• Engage in advanced training opportunities designed to strengthen math content knowledge, pedagogy, and coaching skills
• Serve as mentors to new teachers as needed
